Jumbo Raisin Nut Cookies

2 cups raisins
1 cup water

1 cup shortening
2 cups sugar
1 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon allspice
3 eggs

4 cups flour
2 teaspoons salt
1 teaspoon baking powder

1 cup hand-broken walnuts

Boil for 5 minutes the raisins and water. Drain, set aside 1/2
cup liquid from boiled raisins, add water if necessary to make 1/2
cup.

Combind flour, salt, baking powder and raisin liquid.

Cream shortening, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and allspice. Beat in
eggs, one at a time, beating after each addition.

Add the flour mixture, beating after each addition.

Mix well. Add cooked raisins and walnuts. Chill dough. Drop by
fat teaspoonfuls on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 400 for 12
minutes for 2 inch cookies, or 375 for 15 minutes for four inch
cookies. Bake until browned.
